Eddie Murphy & Mister Rogers: Mutual Admiration Society

Eddie Murphy's long-awaited return to SNL over the weekend did not disappoint. Among his many sketches that killed, Murphy revived his beloved Mister Robinson parody character. According to the Fred Rogers Company, Mister Rogers and Mister Robinson actually met on the SNL set back in 1982 when Rogers was in town for a taping of Late Night with David Letterman. Rogers' staff convinced convinced him to make the short trek over to see Eddie (Late Night and SNL were both headquartered at Rockefeller Plaza in NYC). Per David Newell (Mr. McFeely) who accompanied Rogers on the trip, "Fred knocked on Eddie's dressing room door. When Eddie opened it, he took a step back, surprised, then got a big smile on his face and said 'The REAL Mister Rogers' and hugged Fred." Two of the most iconic television personalities of all-time. http://www.neighborhoodarchive.com/misc/snl/index.html
